All 52 cards are dealt equally among four players — 13 cards each. Cards are dealt one at a time, counterclockwise. Every player must play every round; there are no passes or folds once the game begins.

📢 The Call (Bid)

Before play begins, each player declares how many tricks they expect to win that round. The minimum call is 1 — you cannot call zero. Your call is a commitment: meet it or exceed it to score points; fall short and you lose points equal to your call.

♠️ Spades Are Always Trump

Spades beat every other suit regardless of rank. If you cannot follow the lead suit, you may play any card — including a spade to trump the trick. The highest card of the lead suit wins unless a spade is played, in which case the highest spade wins.

🔄 Following Suit

You must follow the lead suit if you have a card of that suit in your hand. You can only play a different suit — including spades — if you have no cards of the lead suit. Strategic hand management around this rule is what separates good Callbreak players from great ones.

🏆 Winning a Trick

The player who plays the highest card of the lead suit wins the trick — unless a spade was played, in which case the highest spade wins. The winner of each trick leads the next one. After 13 tricks, scores are tallied and the next round begins.
